the story

Sometimes life gets busy and I forget about my photos. Such was with this photo. I traveled to the city of Jinghong in Yunnan Province, China for the Super Blue Blood Moon Lunar Eclipse on January 31, 2018 (not visible in the US). After meeting some friends on top of a 30+ level apartment building, we stayed up late to enjoy the show and capture something a bit rare.

Fast forward to the Super Wolf Blood Moon Lunar Eclilpse in January of 2019 (not visible in China). I remembered my year-old photos! Using a long-exposure photo of Kunming city (also in Yunnan Province) shot from my apartment window, creating a gradient sky, brushed stars, some glow, and adding each phase of the lunar eclipse, I was able to create this composite and relive something great.
